As you guys know I am obsessed with skincare. I love trying new products and regimens that will help make my skin the smoothest and most baby soft it can be. I think one of the most important parts of taking care of your skin is having a good night time routine so that those products can go to work while you sleep and you wake up with better skin! Every single night I make sure to take care of my skin and to give it the care it needs. My night time routine will sometimes change based on variables like the time of the year, the weather, and whatever problems I am having at the moment. Overall, I try to stick to the same basic routine no matter what, and then add or take away products as I feel the need. So if you are searching for a simple but effective night time routine, keep reading!!
First things first, TAKE OFF YOUR MAKEUP. Ladies, if there is one thing you must do at night over anything else, it is take the makeup off your face. No matter what the circumstances are I will NEVER go to sleep with my makeup on. It not only causes breakouts (which is enough of a reason itself), it increases the skins aging process by leaving all the dirt and chemicals on your skin while you sleep. And if those reasons aren’t enough, when you don’t remove your makeup it gets all over your pillows and sheets which just means more laundry for you. To remove my makeup every night I use the Garnier Micellar Water. You can get it from literally anywhere (Target, Walgreens, Ulta, etc.) its like $5, totally worth it. and then I just use a cotton pad to take it off.
Even though all the makeup is off my face I still want to cleanse it to get rid of all impurities and clean out my pores. I don’t want extra dirt hanging around on my face all night long. There are a lot of different cleansers to choose from depending on your personal skin problems and preference. For example if you have really dry skin, you will probably want to use a different cleanser than someone with super oily skin. For cleansing I usually use Cetaphil, it’s a dermatologist recommended cleanser that isn’t too harsh on the skin. It removes makeup and dirt and also helps with break outs.
Using a toner can do a number of things for your skin! I helps with evening skin tone, calming redness, shrinks pores, refreshes skin, and balances the pH of your skin. I always say that if there was one thing I could fix about my skin, it would be to have an all over even skin-tone. If I had that I literally wouldn’t wear makeup, (also would have to have a tan but anyway), so for me a toner is very important! Using a toner will keep your skin feeling refreshed while going deep into your skin working on the many other benefits. I have been using Thayers Witch Hazel for about a year now and I love what it does for my skin!
It is never too early to start using an eye cream. The skin around your eyes is so sensitive it needs all the love you can give it. This means using an eye cream every night to ensure your youthfulness remains for as long as possible. Again, there are so many different eye creams that help with different problems so you can get one that is personally beneficial to you. Whether you have problems with wrinkles, hydration, puffiness, or dark circles, it is important to use a cream that will align with your specific needs. Bottom line is we want to keep the skin around our eyes looking young, bright, and hydrated!
Now is the time I will use a spot treatment if necessary. If I am having breakouts (which usually happens a couple times a month, LOVE) I will use a spot treatment to try to calm and get rid of them as quickly as possible! I personally use either the Innisfree spot treatment or Differin gel acne treatment. These treatments help reduce redness and swelling of the pimple, while also going deep into pores to clean them out. Another favorite is TEA TREE OIL. This stuff honestly works magic. If I feel a pimple coming I will put pure tea tree oil on the spot before I go to bed at night and when I wake up, the pimple is actually less visible or just gone! It has to be 100% pure or it will not have the same effect so make sure to check the label when buying. I use one from Young Living Essential Oils.
A serum is something that has become so essential to my routine I’m actually not sure how I ever survived without one. Serums are filled with vitamins for your skin that seep down into the layers and help with aging, hyperpigmentation, acne, and protect your skin. I currently use a serum from Innisfree and really love what it has done for my skin. I have noticed my skin become more even toned, smoother, and more hydrated since using a serum.
Lastly we moisturize. I stronglyyyy dislike when my skin feels dry, so I always make sure if there is one product I use after cleansing my face, it will be moisturizer. Applying a moisturizer keeps your skin hydrated and prevents dullness. It works as a protective layer of moisture that even helps with anti-aging. I love when my skin feels and looks hydrated and glowy. My favorites right now are Drunk Elephant, La Mer and Glow Recipe. But I always like to try something new.
Face masks are not something I do every night but I do like to do them at least once a week. I choose my mask depending on what my skin needs most. If I am feeling super dry that week I will use a hydrating mask like Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask or Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleep Mask. If I feel like my skin has a lot of texture I will use a mask that is good for exfoliating or smoothing the skin, my faves are my Innisfree Pore Clearing Clay Mask. I also really like sheet masks because they leave your skin feeling very hydrated and I like to rub the what is left over from the mask into my skin after I take it off. When I do use a face mask, I will do it right after cleansing my face and then continue with the rest of my routine afterwards. Masking is a great way to give your skin a little extra TLC.
And there you have it! That is my full night-time routine that truly does not take more than 5 minutes (unless I am masking obvi.) Each of these steps has their own important roll so I do like to do all of them - most nights. Some nights we’re really tired or we just don’t feel like it ya know? ALSO: This is what works FOR ME. In no way am I saying that this routine is the only routine that works or that you absolutely must do all of these steps in order to obtain good skin. This is just what I have discovered after doing tons of research and watching many other women talk about what works for them and trying it out myself. I hope you guys got some good info though! I just want to share my knowledge with my fellow skin care obsessed beauties!
Let me know if there is anything I am missing or if you have any good night time skin care tips!
